Boating and Banks of Ganges
Kashi being one of the oldest places in the world – and according to the holy scriptures of the Hindi, the Veda, also the last city standing – has over the centuries attracted many visitors. For the holiness of the place, but also for the beauty. Situated near the river Ganges the lively vibe at the Banks and in the Ghats is really one of a kind. The colors, the smells, the sounds, the tastes, the views; it really activates all your senses.

Herewith some suggestions what to do while in Varanasi, optimizing the quality of your stay. And of course we will be glad to help you organizing. Please be aware that during monsoon Ganga swells and no boats can go. Also during those weeks the Banks and Ghats, some temples inclusive, are completely submerged, yearly interrupting the regular religious practices and riverside activities.
The Boats
When in Varanasi one really should embark a boat. This experience is so special, one never to forget. For us the early mornings are best. Love the sunrise seen from the Ganges. But the evenings for sure have a charm of their own, when the Varanasi skyline is full of live and lights. In both cases it can easily combined with going to Aarti – and see it from the water. As our guest we love to arrange it all for you, just let us know.
Ganga Aarti
Dashashwamedh, on just a two minute walk from our place, is most famous for it’s evening Aarti. Every night the priests perform this ritual – a devotional offering to Maa Ganga, the divine mother – that is visited by thousands of devotees and tourists. Make sure you have a good seat near the priests or watch it from one of the many boats from where you have a fantastic view. Rajendra Prasad Ghat, next to Dashashwamedh Ghat, is another place were they do the evening Aarti. The morning Ganga Aarti – be prepared to wake up early – is offered on Assi Ghat, one of the other main ghats. We can arrange your visit and ensure you beste places.
The Banks & Ghats
There are 84 ghats in Varanasi, passages with steps, leading down to the holy river Ganges. The Ghats and Banks have religious significance. Many pilgrims and saddhus perform rituals here like taking a holy bath in Ganga River. Here, at the Banks and in the Ghats, you can really feel the atmosphere of spirituality. Just go, walk and sit, and surrender to that what happens before your eyes. From very early in the morning till late in the evening.
