SARA Silk Palace
Our favorite little saree shop. Very down to earth, but qualitative. Already four generations in silk, they know all about it. Run by Heru and his family. Varanasi is famous for silk. From this area of India also the most expensive kind of silk, muga, comes. From muga silk – and cheaper silk and other materials – they make saree, dupatta and other dress materials. Tell them you’re from Rana Mahal and they will be happy to help you and explain you all about the craftmanship and culture behind silk and sarees – without you feeling the urge to buy. But of course they are happy when you do so. They do speak a little bit of English. Also you can arrange special requests and have your very own special design made, in whatever colors and fabric.
